Iowa banks participate in the 2013 Teach Children to Save Day
On April 23, 2013, bankers nationwide reached 645,000 students across the country through Teach Children to Save (TCTS) Day. More than 100 Iowa banks participated in the event by reaching out to their communities and teaching kids about saving. Bankers worked with students as young as first grade, up to 12th grade, teaching them financial skills through hands-on lesson plans and interactive activities.

Budgeting for College
According to the study How America Saves for College 2013, one-quarter of families don't save for college because they believe the student will qualify for enough scholarships and financial aid to cover the costs of college. In reality only 61% of students received scholarships and those scholarships only covered 29% of their total college costs.

IBA/EverFi video contest winner announced
The Iowa Bankers Association provided a $1,000 technology grant to Treynor High School last week, the winner of a financial literacy video contest sponsored in partnership with the Iowa Bankers Association, EverFi and Iowa College Aid.

Macy Evans named 2013 Money Smart Kid
Macy Evans, an eighth grader at Creston Middle School in Creston, Iowa, has won a statewide financial literacy essay contest and has been named Iowa’s 2013 Money Smart Kid.
